Scams have skyrocketed since the pandemic began and are showing no signs of letting up. We have received reports of imposters posing as ComEd employees to steal money and personal information from individuals and businesses.

Scammers try to manipulate the emotions of their targets to take advantage of you. Losing money or personal information to scams or fraud can be devastating. During the holidays, scammers will up their game, knowing people are more distracted with work, holiday plans. Plus, with online shopping and easier ways to send money, it becomes harder to track spending and bill-paying habits.
At ComEd, the safety and well-being of our customers, communities and employees is our top priority and we want to help protect you.
Scammers may:
  • Call using a number that appears to be a ComEd phone number
  • Use fake websites and email addresses to mimic legitimate businesses like ComEd
  • Threaten to disconnect your service and demand immediate payment
  • Claim your account is compromised and ask you to call them back at a different number or give personal information
ComEd will never:
  • Threaten to disconnect service
  • Demand immediate payment through a bogus website, with a prepaid cash card, cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, or third-party payment app like Cash App, QuickPay, Venmo or Zelle
  • Ask for personal information such as Social Security Number, Tax ID or bank info; we also will not ask for your ComEd account number unless you contact us first to enroll in a program or service
